Why see Game of Thrones: The Mad King?

The Iron Throne Lands On The West End

"When you play the game of thrones, you win, or you die. There is no middle ground."

Winter is coming, but it looks like Game of Thrones is coming to London first! Following a hit run in Stratford-upon-Avon, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s prequel Game of Thrones: The Mad King is heading to the West End in 2027... with venue, dates and casting to be announced. You may know nothing, London, but be sure to sign up for ticketing alerts for Game of Thrones: The Mad King to see who takes a seat on the theatrical throne!

George RR Martin himself has endorsed the production, so this one comes with some serious Westerosi approval! It's a West End battle you definitely don't want to miss.

Who Will Survive? And Who Will Rise?

Written by Duncan MacMillan, this stage prequel explores the story of the infamous Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, taking audiences back to Westeros long before the events of the HBO series. For the first time, you will be taken deeper into the story and experience the events which led up to the game which hooked many of us for years.

A long winter is fading in Harrenhal. As a lavish banquet takes place on the eve of a grand jousting tournament, a romance blossoms, and guests speculate over who will enter the contest. But beneath the celebrations... the Mad King’s increasingly brutal actions unsettle the realm; members of his inner circle secretly begin plotting treason. And, far beyond the castle walls, the sound of war is drawing closer.
