The Jungle

The Jungle at Young Vic

Why see The Jungle?

Promoting compassion through drama

A new drama about hope and compassion comes to the Young Vic in December that focuses on the refugees that lived in the Calais camp, until it was torn down earlier this year. A collaboration between and the National Theatre and Good Chance Theatre, a charity-based company that built temporary arts spaces at the camp, the story is based around a small Afghan cafe that welcomed people throughout the camp to provide a safe space.

Within this corrugated iron shack of a cafe, people from the aid charities and the refugees alike would meet to discuss their cases, their predicament, their dreams and hopes for a better life. Sometimes in hell on earth, a small corner of heaven can be found, inhabited by the kindest people. Stephen Daldry co-directs with Justin Martin
