My Night With Reg

My Night With Reg at Apollo Theatre

Why see My Night With Reg?

Nominated for the Best Revival Olivier Award

Donmar Warehouse's revival of Kevin Elyot's award-winning comedy play transfers to the West End for a limited 12-week season. Set in the Eighties at the dawn of the AIDS panic, this play watched the lives of three gay men whose interactions with the unseen Reg has a profound affect on all of their lives. Sharp, heartbreaking yet searingly funny, it focuses on Reg's apparent promiscuity and the chain reaction of deception and betrayal set off by his flighty behaviour.

WHAT IS My Night With Reg ABOUT?

The play focuses on three eras in the lives of a group of gay male friends. Conspicuously absent from the group is Reg, however is presence is more than felt; it is a constant reminder to them all about the cost of his promiscuity at the height of the Eighties AIDS panic sweeping the country. All three of the play's scenes take place in the living room of Guy's London flat and reflect the laughter and sadness that evolves as friends, old and new, party hard in the flat night after night.

Brilliantly witty, comical but also heartbreakingly cruel, when the play premiered in 1994, it won the Olivier Award for Best Comedy (1995) and the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy (1994). Now 20 years on, AIDS and HIV awareness is still in the public arena as ever, albeit more educated and responsible, making this play more relevant than ever.
