GREASE

I’ve just seen it Thursday 14th September 2023 Dominion Theatre . I couldn’t quite put my finger on it but something didn’t fit . The dancing was amazing , singing voices were great , stage looked creative - I think it was the story line & songs , they didn’t make sense . The songs weren’t well known & the leads were confusing so you didn’t know who was who ( I initially assumed the cast were the understudies until after the interval Peter Andre & Jason Donovan made very brief appearances) On reflection I think the issue was with the script, sound & lighting, it may have been the casting but they did a good job . That said I didn’t enjoy it neither did any of the party I was with . I’d still recommend it as I think people should make their own minds up. Separate to the above I think the story line is dated and in need of a modern twist.

VERY DISAPPOINTED

The cast didn’t even look like the Grease actors? Sandy with dark hair? Regret that we even went back for second half and not rather go and watch the film again in our hotelroom! We saw Wicked the next evening and luckily it was in a different class.

ODD

First time I’d seen a show in london which was supposed to be highlight of the weekend but it was just weird. We went on Saturday the 7th October and near the end the cast just left the stage for about 15 minutes without explanation. They came back on for the final song which was disappointing then it ended. The scenes all over the place, nothing like the film and who told Danni to act like a hard man, more like west side story than grease. Not good! From props, staging, actors and singing all quite poor.

GREASE IS NOT THE WORD!

We sat through the evening performance on Saturday 7th May and we were stunned by how amateurish this production is. It is set in Rydell high school and it feels like you are watching a genuine high school production. The dialogue wanders so far away from the film story that at one point after falling out with Danny, not going to the dance with him and saying she never wants to see him again Sandy suddenly appear at the drive-in cinema with him so Danny has to explain to the audience how that happened. Talking of Danny the role and actor are so understated I actually kept forgetting who on the stage was Danny. The show is obviously written by someone who had never seen the film and was armed only with the soundtrack album and the original 1978 film trailer to go on. A truly forgettable show with the most lack lustre cast you'll ever see in the West End! Peter Andre couldn't drag the performance up with his attempt at adding comedy and strained vocals to the part of Vince Fontaine.

BEYOND AMATEUR

Went to see Grease last week, having snapped up a decent deal on tickets as part of an offer - really wish I hadn't! In all honesty, we didn't make it past the interval - we were so disappointed and the performance was genuinely cringeworthy, we made the decision to slip out. Having said that, at least we made it to the interval! At least two dozen people sitting around us got up and left throughout the first half and never came back, should give you an accurate depiction of how terrible it was. The only performance worthy of enduring is that of Sandy, fantastic voice! Honestly, that is literally the only positive from the show. Danny's vocals were shambolic and the actor just seemed to dissolve into the background - not very Danny Zuko-eqsue. In general, the dance numbers were good and Peter Andre did his best to inject a bit of life into what was a really sub-par show. Acting was likened to an actual school production. Don't waste your time!!

GREASE AT DOMINION

I was very disappointed when i saw the show last night. It lacked chemistry and the sound system seemed all wrong. Peter Andre in the background waving his arms about was just daft. Jason Donovan appeared for a very short time only. The casting could have been better. Danny was quite bland. Rizzo was brilliant but Sandy lacked personality and at the end when you expected a great dance I realised she couldnt dance either. Was a shame as the tickets were expensive and I was hoping for something to the standard of we will Rock you which I would definitely recommend alongside Phantom and Les Mis
