Jubilee

Jubilee at Lyric Hammersmith

Why see Jubilee?

Drugs, Sex and Punk Rock 'n' Roll!

Capturing the punk wave at its dizzying height, English film director Derek Jarman captured the spirit of the rebellious era of the late 70s. Now his seminal work is once again sticking two fingers up to the establishment in a brand new stage adaptation at Hammersmith's Lyric Theatre. Transporting the action to present day, this rude, crude musical asks pertinent questions still valid in today's unstable political climate.

With faith in the government at an all time low and far right fanaticism on the rise, the updated story follows the misadventures of a marauding gang of girls with a taste for blood. Throw in a time-travelling Queen Elizabeth, Punk goddess Toyah Wilcox, cast members from the original film, a perfectly punk score and a whole lot of pyromania and you get one rollicking rollercoaster riot of a show!
