Why See As You Like It?
The true meaning of being in love
In the magical forest of Arden, anything is possible. When two hopeless romantics stumble into its midst no one can predict what will ensue. With a classic case of mistaken identity, adventure, rivalry and not forgetting romance As You Like It is as Shakespearian as it gets.
This new production for the Open Air Theatre's 2018 season features brand new music by Charlie Fink of Noah and the Whale fame and direction by Max Webster (who directed "The Lorax" in 2017).
What is As You Like It about?
Rosalind, the daughter of an unjustly exiled duke, meets and falls in love with the wronged Orlando, a courtier who was driven from court by his cruel brother. Disguising herself as a boy she flees to her father in the Forest of Arden. As fate would have it, Orlando is there and she counsels him in the art of love whilst maintaining her guise as "Ganymede".
However, there is a chink in the plan; a shepherdess called Phoebe falls in love with "Ganymede" despite "him" showing no reciprocal interest whatsoever. To add to the confusion, Phoebe has her own admirer in another man. How long can Rosalind keep up her guise? Will Orlando's brother ever see the error of his ways?
