Why See ?

A Masterpiece Menage A Trois

A new UK tour of Andrea Dunbar's play Rita, Sue and Bob Too. The piece was first staged at the Royal Court in 1982, directed by Max Stafford-Clark. Stafford-Clark has returned to this piece to direct the resurrection. The revival begins at the Octogon Theatre, Bolton before heading to theatres including Bristol Old Vic, Oxford Playhouse, and Liverpool Playhouse. Its final curtain call will be at the Royal Court in January.

The piece is a striking portrait of two girls caught between a merciless childhood and an unpromising future, both hungry for adult adventure. Rita and Sue are best friends and get a lift home from married man Bob after babysitting his kids. When Bob decides to take the scenic route and offer them a bit of "fun", they take the opportunity and the three start a fling they each think they control.

The piece was written by Dunbar when she was only 19 living on a rough council estate, it was her second play. It was soon adapted into a film by Alan Clark.
