Why See Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill?
Lady Day visits London for 12 weeks only!
Audra McDonald finally brings her stunning performance as Billie Holiday to London after the 2016 production was delayed due to Ms. McDonald's pregnacy. This Tony-winning production looks back on the First Lady of Jazz's life, with the story of her life told through the music and songs she created. Set inside a smokey Philadelphia nightclub in the late 1950s, the musical recreates one of Ms. Holiday's last ever performances - occurring just four months before her untimely death.
Fans of the blues singer will be delighted to hear Ms. McDonald, now a six-time Tony Award-winning actress, perform some of Billie Holiday's classic hits - including Strange Fruit, When a Woman Loves a Man, and God Bless the Child. Her sensational performance won her the 2014 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Play, making her the only person in Tony history to win an award in four different acting categories.
Opening night: 26 June 2017
This production contains strong language and themes of an adult nature. Parental guidance is advised before booking tickets.
