Game Of Thrones Stage Show To Premiere This Summer
Game of Thrones: The Mad King is set a decade before the first season
The beloved Game of Thrones universe is heading to the stage in a brand new production titled Game of Thrones: The Mad King.
Set more than a decade before the events of the original series, the play transports audiences to a turbulent era in Westeros. Instead of the icy North or King's Landing, this story places us in the scorched ruins of Harrenhal.
The production will premiere in summer 2026 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in StratforduponAvon. It is being adapted by Duncan Macmillan and written by Dominic Cooke, marking a significant new chapter in the franchise's evolution.
George R. R. Martin, author of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, shared his excitement about the announcement:
"When I first wrote Game of Thrones, I never imagined that it would be anything other than a book... To my great surprise, it was adapted for a series and viewers have been able to enter the world of my imagination through the medium of television."
He added:
"For my work to now be adapted for the stage is something I did not expect but welcome with great enthusiasm and excitement. Theatre offers something uniquea place for mine and the audience's imagination to meet and hopefully create something magical."
Further details, including casting, will be revealed in due course.
