The Greatest Showman finds a West End home!
The Theatre Royal Drury Lane will come alive as the West End home of The Greatest Showman
Roll up, roll up! After months of speculation, The Greatest Showman has announced that it will transfer to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane next year, with performances expected to begin in Spring, following its world premiere in Bristol this summer. The show's original stars, Oliver Tompsett (& Juliet, Wicked) and Samantha Barks (Les Miserables, Frozen) will reprise their roles as P T Barnum and Charity Barnum, respectively.
Based on the blockbuster 2017 film of the same name, The Greatest Showman tells the story of showbiz impresario P T Barnum and how he built his famous Barnum and Bailey Circus. With fantastic songs like 'The Greatest Show', 'A Million Dreams', and, of course, 'This is Me,' which won a Golden Globe, the film quickly became a firm favourite with families all over the world and is the 5th highest-grossing musical movie of all time.
Whispers of a stage run have been going on since the movie was released, and the show finally premiered this year at the Bristol Hippodrome, scored by the Oscar-winning team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, including new material specifically for this adaptation. The book is by Tim Federle, and the director is Casey Nicholaw (Mean Girls, The Book of Mormon).
While details are being kept under wraps, we know this staging is set to become one of the West End's biggest draws next year, and likely beyond!
