Why see Golden Boy?

He Travels With The Punch

Olivier Award-winner Sam Yates (VANYA, Magpie) directs BAFTA-winner Josh O'Connor (The Crown, Challengers) in a gripping revival of Clifford Odets' American classic Golden Boy, accompanied by a live string quartet. A symbol of the moral and emotional price of success, Golden Boy became a major motion picture in 1939 during the Golden Age of cinema, with countless revivals. The play received eight 2013 Tony Award nominations, including Best Revival of a Play and Best Performance by an Actor.

What's the Story?

Set in 1930s New York at the height of the Great Depression, Golden Boy follows Joe Bonaparte, a young man with a rare gift for the violin and a promising future in music. But when the lure of fame and fortune pulls him into the harsh, unforgiving world of professional boxing, Joe finds himself at a crossroads. Caught between his family's hopes, a dangerous love affair, and the demands of a ruthless manager, he must decide what he's willing to give up  and who he's willing to become in pursuit of the American Dream.
