Why see Dreamscape?
Award Winning Play
The Arcola Theatre plays host to Rickerby Hinds' award winning play Dreamscape, heading back to London after a highly successful run in New York. The critically acclaimed production was widely lauded when it ran at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, singled out by The Scotsman and The Stage in their best-shows lists and winning a Fringe Theatre Award, before receiving 5 stars in The Guardian in 2026. Adapting the appalling true story of Tyisha Miller's fatal shooting by police, Dreamscape uses beatboxing, dance and hip-hop music to bring Tyisha's story and life to the stage.
What Is It About?
Tyisha Miller was just 19 years old when, shortly after Christmas in 1998, armed police shot and killed her while she lay comatose in her car, sparking protests against yet another example of police brutality towards black people in America. Dreamscape looks back on Tyisha's story, positioning the terror of her killing next to a remembrance of the teenage joy that was her life, told in part through hip-hop dancing, beatboxing and rapping.
