Monstering The Rocketman

A riveting performance that reminds us that claims of a golden age of good journalism before social media are a misrepresentation of history

Why see Monstering The Rocketman?
Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
Following sellout shows, rave 5-star reviews, and winning the Fringe First Award at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, Monstering the Rocketman heads down south for its London premiere! A gripping one-man-show written and performed by Henry Naylor (Spitting Image) and directed by Darren Lee Cole, the play is a true story, dramatising the infamous Elton John vs. The Sun lawsuit, in which the singer sued for defamation after the tabloid rag falsely accused him of hiring rent boys.
What Is The Story
In the 1980s, one of the world's biggest music icons, Elton John, comes head to head with Britain's most notorious tabloids, The Sun, after the paper publishes false allegations about him engaging in sex with rent boys. Elton John strikes back with a multi-million-pound libel action, but editor Kelvin Mackenzie refuses to back down. Instead he doubles down, unleashing a relentless harassment campaign; one which could push even a superstar to breaking point. A brilliant new play, serving as a reminder that fake news and media lies are by no means a new phenomenon.
