Doctor Faustus

Why see Doctor Faustus?

What art thou Faustus, but a man condemned to die?

Direct from The Swan Theatre in Stratford the RSC present their newest iteration of Marlowe's classic tale of greed, vanity, and eternal damnation. The story of an academic who, upon reaching the limits of learning, summons a demon from the depths of hell and brokers a deal with the devil; All the magical powers he desires for four and twenty years, in return for his most precious commodity, his soul.

At nearly 400 years old, Christopher Marlowe's opus of hubris is still fresh to this day, as much as comment on society as the individual, Faustus raises the age-old question of just how much we'd be willing to sacrifice for untold power, fame and riches.

Starring Sandy Grierson and Oliver Ryan , the two actors will decide each night live on stage who plays Doctor Faustus and who will be the demon Mephistopheles, relying on a the stroke of match. Who will you see in this utterly compelling classic of literature?
