Matilda The Musical

Matilda The Musical at Cambridge Theatre

Why see Matilda The Musical?

A Little Magic Goes A Long Way!

Roald Dahl's beloved tale of a remarkable child with extraordinary abilities has been enchanting audiences at the Cambridge Theatre since 2012.

Combining the talents of Tim Minchin and the Royal Shakespeare Company, this extraordinary show has won seven Olivier Awards and has captured the hearts of young and old theatergoers alike, making it one of the most sought-after tickets in London!

Don't just take our word for it - Matilda's appeal is worldwide, with tours and engagements taking it all over the globe from Broadway to Australia to the Philippines, Korea and beyond.

What is the story?

Matilda, the central character, is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence for her young age - and not to mention, psychokinetic powers.

She's despised by her own hideously selfish parents, but finds a kindred spirit in her shy schoolteacher Miss Honey. Miss Honey also has demons to face - in the form of the outrageously callous headmistress Miss Trunchbull.

Over the course of her first term at school, both teacher and pupil have a profound effect on each other's lives, as they both try to foil the dastardly plans of Trunchbull, and Matilda's parents.

Fans of the novel and the show may also be familiar with the 1996 film starring Mara Wilson and Pam Ferris, with real-life husband and wife duo Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman playing Mr and Mrs Wormwood!

Colourful, clever, unmissable

I'm afraid it's true, the kids are revolting - but don't be too alarmed, we mean 100% revolution and 0% revulsion. The school-aged portion of Matilda's cast are causing a revolution in musical theatre, singing and dancing their way to West End stardom...

Fantastic Show

The girl playing Matilda is awesome , all the characters are so professional and beautiful. The stage, the effects, the dancing,… all soooo nice. Just one thing I didn’t like and I wish the management takes it into consideration. The principle I prefer if she is a girl, let a girl play the role, and if he is a boy let a boy play the role. As in one part one of the boys in the play got confused and called her HE. This is confusing for kids. Also using bad words when the lizard came under her clothes, I didn’t like it even I heard some parents in the audience trying to cover it up. The audience most of them tourists they come from different cultures so it’s not nice especially they are still kids. Management should take into consider culture and age as it’s a kids play mostly and not grown up. But, overall it’s a must to see as all the other things were more than wonderful. ... Read more

Matilda the Musical

I really enjoyed this show. The performers were fantastic, especially the lead actress. The songs were catchy and very entertaining. Cambridge Theatre is a lovely venue, but I would recommend getting seats as close to the front as your budget allows. We were relatively far back and some of the dialogue was quite difficult to hear. I think the people at the back would have seriously struggled to hear everything, even though those seats were selling for £25- £30. Overall though, it was a great night out. ... Read more
