Mother Goose

Mother Goose at Hackney Empire

Why see Mother Goose?

Clive Rowe returns to The Empire

Mother Goose is flying back into the Hackney Empire this year as their annual Christmas pantomime, and Olivier-winner Clive Rowe returns to star as the larger-than-life Goose herself! Prepare for another perfectly festive production, complete with a host of unforgettable characters, plenty of witty dialogue and outrageous costumes, and jokes to please adults and kids alike.

Rowe enjoyed a four-year hiatus from Hackney's infamous annual pantos, but has plucked up the courage to rejoin the flock this year! He'll to don the goose gown alongside Olivier-winner Sharon D Clarke who'll be playing the role of the 'good sister', Charity.

What is Mother Goose about?

Dark times have fallen upon the kingdom of Hackneytopia, where two magical sisters - the evil Vanity and the oh-so-good Charity - fight it out for the soul of poor Mother Goose who has been bestowed with an incredible gift - a magical goose that lays golden eggs named Princess Priscilla! Will Princess Priscilla help change Mother Goose's life for good or will Mother Goose be swayed by her newfound riches and use it for selfish reasons? And will the two enchantress sisters ever stop their fowl play?

What a performance!

Just seen the matinee performance; a great show. A bit slow in places, but hilarious in others. Ian McKellan is a tour de force on stage, supported by a clearly talented and funny cast in this modern reimagining of a timeless children's classic. Would recommend with or without children, there's enough fun for both to enjoy. ... Read more

Eggstatic!

What a wonderful pantomime, the best I’ve ever seen! Wonderful performances from John and Sir Ian. Brimming with fun, slapstick humour, singing and dancing to eggless! Travelled from Newark to see this staying overnight in gorgeous Oxford! What a tonic in these troubled times! Loved it, wonderful cast and great performance from all. John Bishop only had to appear to make me laugh and Sir Ian absolute legend! ... Read more
