Why see The Kid Stays In The Picture?

Robert Evans gets his day in the stage spotlight

A new stage adaptation of the 1994 autobiography by Hollywood producer Robert Evans will be headed to the Royal Court Theatre from this March. The famous personality that enjoyed a meteoric rise to Tinseltown royalty started out as a radio star, turning into a film star and then becoming production chief of Paramount Pictures, before turning to independently producing movies. However, his star came crashing down during the early Eighties when he became bankrupt, and his marriage failed. Director Simon Burnley helms the long-awaited play, that features a plethora of Hollywood talent including the play's star, Danny Huston.

Evans was almost singlehandedly responsible for saving Paramount Pictures from closure following the end of the Golden Age of Hollywood and the Studio System. Greenlighting iconic movies such as the Godfather trilogy and Chinatown helped to secure the studio's legacy and continuing fortune; however we see Evans' own fortunes dwindle, both professionally and personally. This ode to the famed producer is a testament to deciding what one's legacy will be.
