Why see Cabaret?

"Rufus Norris' production is the most stunningly fresh and imaginative revival of a classic musical that I have ever seen. A musical masterpiece rediscovered in a masterpiece of a production"
The Independent

"Stunning. Nothing will prepare you for the raw overwhelming power. A fearless, frank production that magnificently renews a thrilling musical"
The Sunday Express.

"Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome, in cabaret, au cabaret, to cabaret!" This multi award-winning production of Kander and Ebb's landmark show CABARET turns Weimar Berlin of 1931 into a dark and sexually charged haven of decadence: its extraordinary and morally ambiguous inhabitants determined to keep up appearances as the real world prepares for the nightmarish chaos of war.

And at its heart is the legendary Sally Bowles who performs nightly at the infamous Kit Kat Klub in 'a shimmering masterpiece of a show guaranteed night after night! It's divine decadence darling!'

Cabaret, with book by Joe Matseroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, was based on John van Druten's play I am a Camera which in turn took its inspiration from Christopher Isherwood's Berlin stories. The multi award-winning musical was conceived in 1966, later becoming the 1972 film with Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey - the film was to win 8 Academy Awards. Cabaret was the second of Kander and Ebb's musical collaborations. Their other work together includes Chicago, Flora, The Red Menace, The Act,  The Rink, Steel Pier and Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Cabaret was phenominal!

The show was fantastic! I went with my school and I was blown away. I don't get to see much theatre and so it was special. The songs, chorus dancing numbers and 1930s edgy costumes were particular highlights for me. The staging being in the round helped me to see all the characters and their stories. I liked how the characters were around amongst the audience before the show started. The band was on display and playing live! The actors and musicians were all so talented. A phenomenal production. ... Read more

A couple of tips

Wonderful show, lots of energy. However two really important things to know; Don’t buy the pre-show food packs, the value for money is very poor. I bought mine before arriving and noticed almost nobody in the audience had them. The packs are tiny and not worth anywhere near the £50. There barely feed one person, let alone two. Secondly, the toilets issue, mentioned a few times on here. It’s a big problem as there are huge queues and you may spend the entire interval queuing and not enjoying the atmosphere. There aren’t enough and there are very small. ... Read more
