Close Up - The Twiggy Musical

Why see Close Up - The Twiggy Musical?

World premiere

The Menier Chocolate Factory invites us to step back in time to the swinging '60s as they host the world premiere of this new biographical musical about the one and only Twiggy! Written and directed by Ben Elton and soundtracked by a slew of era-appropriate hits, discover the story of the iconic model, from her early days in working-class Neasdon to an international pop-culture phenomenon, who became as synonymous with the decade as The Beatles.

We admit the word icon gets bandied about a lot these days but in the case of Lesley Lawson, A.K.A Twiggy, it's completely correct! During the heyday of the '60s and '70s, her visage came to embody the era, soulfully staring out across the years, empowering women and girls, and is to this day a highly sought-after model, author, broadcaster, and activist.

Great story and great music

We really enjoyed the show. Typical Ben Elton script but well interwoven with the story and songs (mostly!) of the era. Great cast and choreography. Second act a bit overlong with two much backstory on 1st husband (a minor gripe but maybe something to consider before West End transfer!) ... Read more

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

I can honestly say this is one of the best performances I have seen in many a year. I could relate to the whole thing, loved the choice of music, the humour, being able to spot the orchestra occasionally through the glass. What an emotional roller coaster of a life lovely Twiggy has had and still remains one of our grounded lovely icons. Thank you for sharing yourself so openly and to Ben Elton for sprinkling the performance with subtle humour. I'm so sad it is ending - I have so many friends and family I want to share it with - please bring it back to a theatre somewhere else very soon - gutted I cannot get tickets to see it again before it ends. Theatre was a real treat to attend and the singing of "Twiggy" just spine chilling. Loved, Loved, loved. Thanks to everyone involved in the production and performance. ... Read more
