Why see The Third Man?

musical adaptation of a film noir classic

English novelist and screenwriter Graham Greene's captivating 1949 film The Third Man is set to hit the stage in an exciting new musical at the Menier Chocolate Factory. An all time classic of film noir by one of Britain's greatest 20th Century writers, this adaptation features book and lyrics by Christopher Hampton and Don Black (whose previous credits together include Dracula and Sunset Boulevard), accompanied by the stunning music of George Fenton and directed by Trevor Nunn.

Protagonist Holly Martins is seeking out his childhood friend Harry Lime in post-war Vienna, only to discover that he has died in a tragic car accident. Yet, the explanations surrounding Harry's death appear shady. Upon delving further into investigating, Holly finds himself embroiled in a world of black markets and bureaucracy. Coming to a head with a thrilling pursuit through the underground sewers of Vienna, Holly relentlessly searches for truth and the elusive identity of the enigmatic third man.
