The Boys in the Band star Zachary Quinto makes his London stage debut as Gore Vidal opposite David Harewood as William F Buckley Jr. in this stellar new play from James Graham (Ink, Quiz, Sherwood). Detailing the highly influential nightly television debates between the two in the run-up to the 1968 Presidential elections, Best of Enemies received multiple five-star reviews during its Young Vic run earlier this year and now looks to repeat the success at the Noel Coward Theatre from November.
What is the story?
As the Republican candidate, Richard Nixon battles against Democratic nominees Hubert Humprey in the polls, attention is drawn to the fascinating debates televised by ABC. Pitching famed liberal against the religious conservative William F. Buckley Jr., what begins as two political analysts discussing the campaign soon devolves into name-calling and personal attacks, echoing the culture war of the time - one that still rages hard today.
