The celebrated National Theatre production of Oscar Wilde's comedy of manners makes a much-anticipated transfer to the West End, starring Olly Alexander, with direction from Max Webster. Widely considered one of the funniest plays in the English language, The Importance of Being Earnest is a breezy and delightful comedy of manners shot through with Wilde's biting wit, join Jack, Algy, Gwendolyn, and Cecily as they discover that the course of true love never did run smooth under the watchful eye of battleaxe, Lady Bracknell.
Jack and Algernon, two well-to-do bachelors in Victorian England, are wishing for some excitement in their lives. Both creating an alter ego named Earnest, Jack and Algy attempt to win the hearts of Gwendolyn and Cecily, two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men called Earnest. As the pair struggle to keep up with their stories, the foursome becomes entangled in a tale of deception and misadventure.
