If you were ever a fan of those ubiquitous multi-coloured building blocks as a youngster - or even now, for that matter! - this exhibition dedicated totally to LEGO will blow your mind for sure.
Forget those Millennium Falcons and Taj Mahal sets that go for thousands on eBay; we're talking actual works of art from Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, to Vermeer's Girl With A Pearl Earring, all built completely out of LEGO. There's even a "build your own masterpiece area, should you feel inspired! This will make a great opportunity to take the kids or your mates along to, and who knows - perhaps you will turn out to be the next big thing in LEGO art!
Artist Nathan Sawaya is the first of his kind to turn LEGO into its very own art form. Based out of New York, his exhibitions have taken him all over the world, to the delight of millions. He also accepts submissions from fellow artists and amateurs alike, so do be sure to spend some time in the interactive area to build your own masterpiece - who knows, it may end up in his gallery!
Sawaya prides himself on buying his own bricks (all two million of them at the last count), and each creation is guaranteed to use only the same pieces available to the general public. He does have to use glue to ensure that his creations stay in one piece throughout transit - as he remarked once, the worst thing that gallery owners could expect would be thousands of tiny bricks floating around loose in boxes!
So get involved and get perusing and building, this special exhibition will only be in London for a few months!
