Caroline or Change

Why see Caroline or Change?

Sharon D. Clarke Continues as Caroline

From the author of the epic juggernaut, Angels in America, comes Caroline, or Change, a beautiful and poignant tale of friendship, bravery and hope. Transferring to the West End this year, Olivier Award Winner Sharon D. Clarke will continue to shine in the title role, alongside director Michael Longhurst as this virtuosic musical uplifts and moves London audiences.

Telling the story of eight-year-old Noah Gellman as he finds comfort from grieving his mother in the shape of Caroline, the Gellman's black maid, Caroline, or Change provides an eloquent and inspiring portrait of America as it goes through historic social change.

What's Caroline, or Change about?

Little Noah is heartbroken and angry, grieving his mother's death and upset at his father's re-marriage he escapes to the basement where his beloved maid, Caroline Thibodeaux works all day. Caroline's work is monotonous, tiresome and badly paid, but when the new Mrs Gellman hatches a plan for Caroline to take some more money home, Caroline's and Noah's relationship provides consequences that nobody expected.
