Telling the story of the destruction of Earth and Arthur Dent, the 'last' human that escapes it alongside his alien pal, Ford Prefect and his titular Hitchhiker's Guide 'The standard repository for all knowledge and wisdom' that aids them, THGTG was the invention of author Douglas Adams and first came to fruition on Radio 4 in 1978. A book series (or trilogy in five parts) followed, alongside a television series in 1981. In 2005, the series made it to the big screen in an adaptation directed by Garth Jennings, starring Martin Freeman, Mos Def, Sam Rockwell and Zooey Deschanel.
