The Magic Flute at Royal Opera House

Why see The Magic Flute?

The Quintessential Production

Sir David McVicar's truly enchanting production of Mozart's magical opera returns to the Royal Opera House for the company's 2026/27 season. Set to one of the composer's greatest scores (including the instantly recognisable Queen of the Night aria) and played out on sumptuous sets and in glittering costumes by John Macfarlane, this quintessential production is the perfect way to enjoy Mozart's final work, be it your first time or your fiftieth!

What Is The Story?

Pursued by a serpent in a strange land between the sun and the moon, Prince Tamino finds himself at the centre of a wild adventure when he is saved by the mysterious handmaidens of the commanding Queen of the Night. Sent on a mission to save the Queen's captured daughter, Pamina, with a magic flute and bumbling servant Papageno, Prince Tamino's trials have just begun as he loses his heart to the Princess and comes to realise that the nature of good and evil in this odd place may not be as clear as they first appear.
