The Animals Come To The Table

A rumination on the consequences of ecological destruction
Why see The Animals Come To The Table?
Eco-Political World Premiere
Making its world premiere at the candlelit setting of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, The Animals Come to the Table brings eco-politics to the stage in brazen, thought-provoking fashion. Written by celebrated British dramatist Timberlake Wertenbaker (Our Country’s Good; The Love of the Nightingale) and directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins, the piece is a poignant, witty and satirical view of the pressing ecological issues that hang over our times, imagining how the earth itself and its flora and fauna might present to the suits at the negotiating table. A timely new work, held in the Globe’s uniquely intimate, atmospheric indoor stage!
What Is The Story?
A clandestine crisis is afoot. A translator and negotiator are called to a top-secret meeting, hoping to broker a truce with the natural world. Facing them is a delegation consisting of a snow leopard, a rat, a chicken, and a whole host of other representatives from across the environmental spectrum, who will stay silent no longer. What happens when the earth finally confronts humans on the damage they are causing? And will the humans hear the planet’s urgent, final ultimatum, before they self-destruct?
