The Two Noble Kinsmen

Why see The Two Noble Kinsmen?

'Tis pity love should be so tyrannous

Former Artistic Director of the Northern Broadsides Barrie Rutter steps up to lead this intriguing collaboration between Shakespeare and John Fletcher. Originally causing some controversy, the joined authorship is now accepted by The Bard's scholars and is considered his final play.

Never more come near me with such friendship, the story of The Two Noble Kinsmen

Based on Chaucer's A Knight's Tale from his Canterbury Tales, Two Noble Kinsmen transports us back to ancient Greece where two men are caught up the war between Athens and Thebes. Once the best of friends, they find their camaraderie turning to rivalry as both fall in love with the same woman from their shared prison cell window. Determined to do what it takes to win her hand, they both escape their bounds for an epic showdown that must, on the King's orders, prove fatal for the other.

Tragic and comedic at the same time ( embodied by the rest of the folk enjoying a merry May Day celebration whilst our heroes duel it out), Two Noble Kinsman is still relatable to today's times, where the pursuit of love continues to make fools of us all.
