Why see End Of The Rainbow?

Skies Are Blue

Award-winning actress and comedian Jinkx Monsoon to star as Judy Garland!

Peter Quilter's End of the Rainbow delves into the fascinating persona of one of cinema's most legendary figures. This Judy Garland musical-drama first premiered on Broadway in 2012 and earned three Tony nominations. It subsequently transferred to Los Angeles - and now a brand-new production is blazing into London, starring RuPaul's Drag Race icon Jinkx Monsoon in the shoes of one of her biggest inspirations!

Acclaimed as "riveting" by critics, End of the Rainbow captures both Garland's wildly erratic off-stage behaviour, her savage wit, and her mesmerising on-stage performances. Part character study and part musical, the show features the numbers Over the Rainbow, Get Happy and Come Rain or Come Shine.

What Is End Of The Rainbow About?

Judy Garland died in 1969 in a London hotel, aged 49. She would go down in history as one of Hollywood's greatest performers, but also one of its most troubled stars. From her emergence as an extraordinarily talented child star, through countless career slumps and comebacks - most notably for 1954's A Star Is Born - Garland continually battled psychological demons and dependencies on drink and drugs.

End of the Rainbow focuses on Garland in London, months before her death, as she prepares for a run of shows which she hopes will provide yet another late-career boost. Joined by fianc Mickey Deans and pianist Anthony, Garland manically paces her hotel room, dissecting her own career and past relationships, while Deans and Anthony do their best to keep Judy sober for the upcoming performances.

Unbelievable outstanding and amazing

Unbelieveable that no one has written a review of this our de force. I thought it was a drama as much as a musical and Tracie Bennett gives her all in an outstanding performance that fully merits the standing ovation she got. She sings and speaks like the original and takes us on an emotional rollercoaster with a small but very effective cast of 3 and a small band. How she didnt get the Olivier award (for drama!)I dont know. The seats were great and everyone had wonderful views as its a small coliseum type layout theatre. I looks like it will finish here on May 21 so get along quickly Even Craig Revel Horward says its amazing on you tube. Dont miss it. By far the best of the four shows we saw in London early April. ... Read more
