Named Best New Opera of 2022 by The Music Critics Association of North America, the English National Opera presents the UK premiere of Jeanine Tesori and Tazewell Thompson's poignant opera. Examining the African American experience in the US, Blue is a vital new work that holds a mirror up to the world we live in. Told through the life of a young couple from the birth of their son, to his murder at the hands of police, it's a deft examination of the importance of love, community, church, and family and how they matter when faced with the unthinkable.
Good art entertains, but great art provokes a deeper response. With creators like Thompson and Tersori working today, we can be assured that everyone's voice is heard, promoting greater diversity, yet finding the motives that bind us all together.
