The Hampstead hit transfers to the West End

A compelling new drama by Richard Bean transfers to the West End Trafalgar Studios this summer, following an acclaimed sell-out run at Hampstead Theatre. Award-winning playwright Bean's previous works One Man, Two Guvnors, Great Britain, Made in Dagenham, and most recently, his hit play The Nap have often landed on the comedic side of theatre; this romantic drama set in the immediate years after the end of World War One departs this notion as it focuses on two people who desperately try to put their pasts behind them.

With Claire Lams and Ben Lloyd-Hughes reprising their roles from the Hampstead production, we follow the heartbreaking tale of a woman who is longing for a child of her own - only to be confronted with the dreadful reality that so few men returned from the Great War. Unmarried but yearning, she chances upon a chivalrous stranger one night, Dennis. One kiss between them changes their lives dramatically. But with society snubbing unmarried mothers, can Stephanie realise her dream? And what lies in Dennis' past? Olivier-Award nominated director Anna Ledwich (Four Minutes Twelve Seconds) returns to helm this West End production.
