Wilton's Music Hall's Christmas season presents Hans Christian Andersen's immortal tale. Directed by Arthur Pita and adapted to the unique setting of the venue, this touching winter fairytale of the poor matchgirl forced to sell her wares in the blistering cold is told as a special, crowd-pleasing Christmas-time show for children and families!
Forced by her brutal father to sell matchsticks to passersby on a blisteringly cold New Year’s Eve, a little girl is close to freezing and in the throes of early hypothermia. Desperate to keep warm, she finds herself a small corner and attempts to warm herself by striking a match. When the light flares, she envisions a story and follows it as we do - until it goes out. Striking a match one after the other, we and the matchgirl are treated to different fables, magic, and some harsh truths along the way - until they all run out. Will somebody take pity on the poor child before it's too late?
