Critically acclaimed writer-director Alexander Zeldin (The Other Place) returns to London with an all-new English adaptation of his play Une Mort Dans la Famille, opening at the Young Vic Theatre in Spring 2026. Telling the tale of a grandmother entering a care home, CARE is a touching examination of later life and finding joy in the mundane.
Grandmother lives with her daughter and two squabbling grandkids. When she suddenly has a fall, the family waste no time in shipping her off to a care home - upending her life against her will. Now stuck with a group of elderly and vulnerable people, she ruminates on loss, death, and loneliness, but also finds pockets of joy in places she never would have expected. Maybe the final act of her life will find hidden revelations after all. CARE takes a heartfelt look at family, growing old, and the pain of loneliness - as well as the beauty present in the everyday.
