Although seemingly vast from the Charing Cross Road exterior and originally seating 1,500, The Garrick is now a rather smaller capacity theatre, currently seating 656.

Untouched in over 60 years is the upper gallery, with its original bench seating intact, just in case of excessive demand. With the dress circle situated on street level, the theatre saw extensive excavations during its erection, with work halted by the discovery of a subterranean river running through the site, hidden since Roman times.

Officially opening in 1889, the theatre was financed by W.S Gilbert of 'and Sullivan' fame and is named for famous thesp David Garrick. Mostly hosting comedy and comedy-drama through the years, notable productions have included No Sex Please We're British, the West End Transfer of the National Theatre's revival of an Inspector Calls and Sir Kenneth Branagh's year-long residency in 2016.
