OH DEAR

What a shame…this amazing cast was let down by the lead male Jamie Bogyo…. No chemistry between him and Satine….he was awkward to watch and lacked the superstar quality needed for this role…. It was also reminiscent of Christmas pantomime at many points. Liisi, Clive, Jason performances were impeccable…as were all members of the cast apart from Bogyo… Such a shame

NOT SO SPECTACULAR

It is with great sadness I write this review. I have waited for a long time for a Broadway adaptation of Baz Lurhman's Spectacular Spectacular...Moulin Rouge. Last Wednesday I did go, but honestly I wish I didn't. To begin, the producer changed the entire story, it did not glue well, they used some of the parts of the story and not some of the parts of the story. It was a royal mess. The music is the most beautiful thing at Moulin Rouge, they messed up by adding a pout-porri of new pop show tunes that instead of elevating the show, just made it tacky. The highlight here was Beyonce's Single Ladies - a chance to groups of women with their proseccos at hand to rejoice. It was simply shit! Finally the cast did not connect, Satine was awful, Christian was American and was not relatable. Thank God for the ensemble cast that was wonderful and did what they could given the poor performances from the lead cast. Don't spend your money here, go see Cabaret instead, that is worth it.

THIS PLAY NEEDS TO GET IN THE BIN

This poor excuse of a play, and I use the term play very loosely… is an absolute insult to the incredible movie and the west end. Me my mum and twin left a before the interval. We were pretty much sprinting out of there. There was no storyline from the get go and the cast had absolutely zero chemistry, but I really had enough when they started singing Rick Astley and Beyoncé songs…absolutely ludicrous. This is a smack in the face to Baz Luhrmann, who has more talent in his little toe than the whole cast & director of this absolute shite show. Fuming.

GLORIFIED KARAOKE

Left at the interval. Costumes/set/singers all excellent but the show is pure cheese. Not edgy or "bohemian" as written and envisioned by Baz Lurhmann but saccharin and weak. If you want a singalong musical, then this is for you but if you're looking for something with soul and depth and intensity, look elsewhere.

WHAT LOVE STORY?

Positive : Great set Negitive: unconvincing leads with poor chemistry. Weak story line missing out crucial parts from the film which would have given it depth. Modern songs just felt tacky. The audience was also super annoying. Lots of drunk loud women on hen dos. Felt like I was at a karaoke at times

GCSE DRAMA

I have looked forward to seeing this show for years as it is one of my favourite films. When we arrived I felt hopeful, as the set was one of the most spectacular I had ever seen in theatre, and the ambiance they were setting was perfect. However, as soon as the introduced the Duke, it was clear that the casting was off; there was nothing slimy or creepy about him. Christian was then on stage and it all went downhill. Terrible acting and an awful American accent (very odd and inaccurate change of storyline), there was no chemistry with him and any other cast members. He also does not have the voice to be playing this part. On to Satine…. Straight away her costume (and those that followed) was disappointing, her singing mediocre with a bizarre American accent slipping in during the songs, and no charisma or chemistry with anyone but the duke! The story and timeline changes, which would be manageable if they didn’t destroy the classic songs from the film. To screw up Elephant Love Melody is a tragedy, especially when you are then adding in lady gaga, Lorde and Britney as replacements. The death of Satine, however…. Well that was a hilarious GCSE drama piece that had us howling with laughter. Don’t waste your money (although Talouse was amazing and the set and lighting were jaw dropping)
