Dame Olivia Newton John dies aged 73

The iconic performer will be sorely missed

In a statement released by her husband John Easterling, Newton-John ended her battle with breast cancer, "surrounded by family and friends." He added, "Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the ONJ Foundation."

Known for her perfect turn as Sandy in the 1978 adaptation of Grease, the Australian star became one of the world's biggest selling artists with hits like 'Physical', 'If Not For You' and 'Xanadu' propelling her to the top of the pop charts. She was also a vocal activist for animal rights and the environment and in 1990 became a UN Goodwill Ambassador.
