The Play That Goes Wrong West End 10th Anniversary: A Decade of Disasters Done Right!

We would roll out the red carpet, but they would probably trip over!

It's been 10 years and The Play That Goes Wrong is still (barely) standing! The show will officially celebrate its West End Anniversary on September 14th, 2024...here's how it all went wrong.

How It Started

The Play That Goes Wrong was born out of Mischief Theatre's absurd love for things going horrendously. The plot is simple - a group of eager but inept amateur actors attempt to stage a murder mystery. But instead of unmasking a killer, they must dodge falling props, wrestle with collapsing sets, and forget their lines quicker than a costume change.

Audiences couldn't get enough of the slapstick brilliance, and by 2014, the play had made its way to the West End. Flash forward ten years, and it's become a global phenomenon, performed in over 35 countries, proving that no matter where you are in the world, everyone loves watching an actor fall around on stage.

How They Make Magic

If you've ever wondered how they mess up night after night, here's a secret: it takes a lot of rehearsal to be this bad! Each missed cue and fumbled line comes from some serious planning. There's even a team dedicated to keeping the set wrong - repairing what needs to break and breaking what needs to stay just right for every performance, with actors that are perfectly awful in the roles as they trip over themselves.
