Why see Fatherland?

The Debut Play From Nancy Farino

The beautiful debut play of writer Nancy Farino, helmed by director Tessa Walker (Biscuits For Breakfast), makes its premiere at Hamstead Theatre's Downstairs space this November. Telling the tale of a fracturing father-daughter relationship through a trip to Ireland, this touching and funny piece of new writing is not one to miss out on.

What Is The Story?

Winston Smith keeps trying to convince himself that life is great. But behind the mask, things are falling apart. The strain of this is starting to tell on his daughter Joy, having to bear the burden of her father's choices. So a road trip escape to explore the family roots in County Mayo seems like a lovely idea... Mixing dark humour with tender moments, Fatherland takes a sharp - and heartfelt - look at the chaotic dynamics that father-daughter relationships can cause.

Excellent!!

I saw this play last night and I fully recommend it for everybody. The acting is excellent, but I must note Jason Thorpe's performance in particular! The writing flows in a natural and organic way and the intelligent direction ensures the seamless transition from scene to scene. Though it is about a father and daughter it is not exclusive. For me it is about all human beings, our internal issues and how they manifest in our relationships. My first time in Hampstead theatre, comfy seats and good view from everywhere. Great night out and food for thought. ... Read more
