Cyrano de Bergerac

Cyrano de Bergerac at Noel Coward Theatre

Why see Cyrano de Bergerac?

A Great Nose May Be an Index of a Great Soul

Starring Olivier Award winner Adrian Lester as Cyrano de Bergerac and Susannah Fielding as Roxane!

A five-star run in Stratford-upon-Avon later, and now the RSC's stellar production of Edmond Rostand's 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac is transferring to London's Nol Coward Theatre! A French nobleman, poet, and fearless duellist (known as much for his wit as his looks), this is the richly researched story of the real Cyrano, a swashbuckling soldier whose quest for true love forces him to confront his greatest insecurity: his rather large nose.

About The Show

A story about the power of love and the art of wordplay, Cyrano de Bergerac was first staged in Paris and has enjoyed a long life on stage, becoming one of theatre history's most frequently revived plays. It has appeared on Broadway with celebrated Cyranos including Walter Hampden, Jose Ferrer, and Kevin Kline. Jamie Lloyd's recent West End revival, starring James McAvoy, brought a modern edge to Rostand's classic and won the Olivier Award for Best Revival, proving Cyrano remains as relevant today as ever. Don't miss your chance to see this enduring masterpiece in the West End!

Not what I was expecting

If you go expecting doublet and hose, swashbuckling swordfighting, then you will be disappointed. A modern reworking of a classic story but one that works, in my opinion, if you're prepared to cast aside any previous knowledge of this story. An incredible, mesmerising five star performance by the wonderful James McEvoy. The play is worth seeing for this performance alone. Subtle, sensitive and angry, all at the same time. The rest of the cast do an admirable job of bringing this story of love, loss and courage to life. ... Read more

Highly recommend

James McAvoy was mesmerising and was ably supported by a brilliant cast. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy the rapping (I’m getting on a bit) but I was gripped from the start. The words were wonderful and delivered with such energy, providing moments of humour, bitterness, sweet gentleness and rage. I wouldn’t take children as it is a long play but did I say James McAvoy was mesmerising? ... Read more
