Brigadoon

Brigadoon at Open Air Theatre

Why see Brigadoon?

First London Staging in 35 years

A miracle little town that only appears to outsiders every 100 years, Lerner and Lowe's Brigadoon harkens back to the romance of the pair's other musical hits like My Fair Lady and Camelot - with a Scottish twist. Revived in London for the first time in 35 years at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre this summer, with direction and choreography from new Artistic Director Drew McOnie and in a new adaptation from Ronda Munro, we dare you not to fall in love with this rare gem.

Brigadoon is a good old-fashioned musical romp, that apart from inspiring an appreciation for tartan, will make your heart sing with wonderful songs such as 'Almost Like Being in Love', 'Watin' For My Dearie' and many more.

What Is The Story?

Tommy and Jeff, two American WW2 pilots are hopelessly lost in the Scottish Highlands, when they hear strange music in the distance. Following it, they stumble upon Brigadoon, a timeless town where nothing is what it seems. Is it a dream? A state of mind?

On discovering Brigadoon doesn't appear on their maps, the townsfolk let them in on their beguiling secret; after being cursed, the town may only appear for one day every 100 years and for an inhabitant to leave would spell disaster. And as Tommy learns, to fall in love means staying forever.

Can he go the distance after meeting the enchanting Fiona? Or will he wake from the dream all to soon? One thing is for certain, no one is the same person after finding Brigadoon.

A treat of Scottish Nostalgia for musical theatre lovers!

Having last seen Brigadoon in London over 35 years ago (about 20 times), I was extremely excited to see it once again. Overall it was really great and I would highly recommend it. The music and songs were a highlight as I can still remember all the words from all those years ago. The view is good from nearly every seat, but it can get very very hot on a sunny day, so bring lots of water to drink and protective hats and clothing to avoid getting sunburnt. My only critique would be that the costumes were not traditional kilts as such but a modern interpretation and possibly made on a tighter budget than the other show I saw in 1989. Nonetheless it was very Lively, with wonderful dancing and tuneful singing. ... Read more
