Cats

Cats at Open Air Theatre

Why see Cats?

Open Air Revival

The West End classic Cats gets a thrilling, open-air revival in Summer 2026! Playing in the stunning, verdant surroundings of Regents Park Open Air Theatre, artistic director Drew McOnie choreographs and directs this new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Cameron Mackintosh's iconic work, full of instantly recognizable costumes and tunes, with choreography  bursting with cat-itude. Created in 1981, Cats is based on poet T.S Elliot's 1939 anthology, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, a guide to all kinds of cats from the streetwise stray to the pampered lap cat.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Once a year, a local tribe of street cats, all with their own distinct names and personalities, come together for the legendary "Jellicle Ball". Here they entertain each other, tell stories, and listen to wisdom given by their elderly and respected leader, Old Deuteronomy. A true musical theatre classic, Cats doesn't follow your usual musical theatre plot, instead, it's a dazzlingly choreographed jamboree that gives us the inside scoop on the real lives of our feline friends!

from 50 to 7 years old our family loved it!

My wife and I saw this show when it first ran 20 years ago (?) and while there are some changes they are all for the better and our children could not stop talking about their first viewing. The music, dance routines and general flow just kept us enthralled with the energy in the theatre having to be experienced to be believed. The music and songs took us on an emotional roller coaster where time stood still, to the point that we didn't want it to end and this was a view shared by those around us. My youngest loved the fat that she got her head 'scratched' by two cats and others interacted with her very much bringing the audience into the world of Cats rather than just watching it. Now I have to say that I am not a fan of musicals at all but this is so much more than just a musical that I could watch it again and again. So a massive thank you to all of the cast and to everyone else involved for you really make this the best show in the world. ... Read more
