A TOTALLY CRAP ENDING

Billed as a ghost story I'd say it was more attempting at comedy. The ending just cannot have happened for the play to have existed..

I FELL ASLEEP

Lily Allen was great but I’m afraid the play didn’t do it for me. Over-acted, rather slow (hence the nap!) and a bit silly but not in a good way

SHOUTING OR SILENCE

Not great - was really looking forward to this - A lot of shrieking and then silence- Wooden acting - Left after the interval - Could not see it getting any better .

OH, COME ON...

This would have been an excellent play if it didn't cheapen itself with incredibly irritating and upsetting jump scares and a "twist" that was obvious from the beginning. Listen. the "Shhh, don't tell" sign at the end made me wonder if the production really, honestly thought the twist was surprising? Given they hammered it home with foreshadowning over and over again through the course of the play? I won't spoil it, just in case, but, COME ON. It's an insult to the audience's intelligence to pretend it was meant to be a surprise. That said, the meat of the play, the characters, the performances, the philosophising, was all entertaining. It would have worked if they hadn't thrown in the cheap genre doodads.

TOO UNREALISTIC FOR ME ON SEVERAL LEVELS

I understand that when viewing a supernatural thriller one must suspend disbelief a bit. But for me this was too much to bear. Moreover, many of the interactions between the characters were forced and unnatural - suddenly they're screaming at and assaulting each other and a minute later they're chummy and light. Finally, sitting next to the speaker was unfortunate and painful (and very much over the top, stylistically) when the intermittent fox shrieks punctuated each scene change. On the positive side, the bones of the story were okay, most of the acting was excellent, a lot of the dialogue was sharp and clever, and the set design was great. Overall, I think this could be an entertaining choice for people who really like ghost stories, but not for those who find supernatural stuff kind of silly.

TERRIBLE ENDING

I was disappointed with the whole production to be honest. I can appreciate why some reviewers say they left at the interval. It lacked substance, cliched & predictable ‘comedy’, 2 of the actors wernt great (wooden & bad timing for saying their lines), unnecessarily noisy to create drama that the play itself lacked, and the ending was dire. I was expecting a clever twist, what I got something my 12 year old would dream up.

STORY OF TWO HALVES.

Wondered what I was watching at first, felt like a school play production. Lots of woke topics, onpoint messaging, swearing when not required, filler etc. After the interval it got more into the swing of things with the story and characters starting to fill out, building nicely towards the twist at the end. Could be so much better.
