A tribute to gay men in New York - and to the ones lost during the AIDS epidemic
A world premiere play in two parts is coming to the Young Vic in March 2018, that is set to be the talk of the town. Written by lauded playwright Matthew Lopez whose works include 2011's The Whipping Man and 2015's Reverberation, this touching new drama about New York's LGBT community will be helmed by Stephen Daldry. Set design will be taken over by Olivier Awardee Bob Crowley, who provided the stunning set for The Plantagenets, as well as garnering three more Tony Awards across the Pond in other works.
It was 1983 when the AIDS crisis reared its head in New York's flourishing gay scene, causing worldwide panic and mistrust towards gay men. Now a whole generation has passed after the countless deaths caused by the cruel diseas; Lopez's poignant and tear-jerking drama examines the legacy of gay men today in New York, where reminders of the epidemic are still all-too real. Centred on a young man who finds love unexpectedly, and who also has to see his friend suffer and die from AIDS, this heart-rending work will have you reaching for the tissues.
