Petula Clark Returns To The West End After 20 Years In Mary Poppins

Performances begin October 23.

After 20 years away from the West End stage, acting legend Petula Clark returns this year as she takes up the iconic role of the Bird Woman in the upcoming revival of Mary Poppins. Clark joins the previously announced Zizi Strallen, who will play the titular character, and Charlie Stemp who is stepping into the musical as Bert. 

Clark starred in the 1981 production of Sound Of Music where she took London by storm as Maria Von Trapp. Clark's other theatre credits include Candida (1983), Sunset Boulevard, Blood Brothers and Someone Like You.

Also joining the cast is Joseph Millson who will be playing the role of Mr Banks. Millson has been seen on TV in Holby City, Eastenders and Doctors with his stage credits include Apologia at the Trafalgar Studios, Mr Foote's Other Leg, and Macbeth at Shakespeare's Globe. 

What is Mary Poppins about?

Jane and Michael Banks have chased away all their previous nanny's, much to the despair of their parents, George and Winifred. When the children's letter explaining what they want in a nanny is ripped up and thrown on the fire by their father, their hopes of finding a kind nanny is lost. That is however until the wind changes and the mysterious Mary Poppins turns up at the door along with adventure and magic. To George's exasperation, Mary Poppins becomes a beloved member of the family, teaching the Bank's a lot more than they think...
