The Lady From The Sea Announces Further Casting, Including Joe Alwyn and John Macmillan
Henrik Ibsen’s classic gets an all-star cast
More names have been added to the casting of the upcoming new version of Henrik Ibsen's classic The Lady From The Sea'. The retelling is adapted and directed by Simon Stone.
It had been previously announced that Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, Tomb Raider) will be taking the role of Ellida, and Andrew Lincoln, best known for The Walking Dead, will play Edward. It has just been announced that joining them will be John Macmillan (Chewing Gum, Famalam) as Lyle, Joe Alwyn (The Brutalist, Conversations With Friends) as Heath, Isobel Akuwudike as Hilda, Brendan Cowell as Finn Marcet, and Gracie Oddie-James as Asa.
Inspired in part by Ibsen's own coastal upbringing in the port town of Skien and his fascination with the sea, The Lady From The Sea is set against the backdrop of a remote coastal town and follows Ellida (Vikander), a woman grappling with the quiet suffocation of domestic life and the reappearance of a past love that threatens to upend everything. Torn between duty and desire, Ellida must confront the choices that define her - and the ones she never made.
Previews for the production begin on 10 September, with the official opening set for 18 September. The show will run through 8 November at London's Bridge Theatre.
