It has been announced that Nicola Roberts will be joining the cast of Hadestown in the West End.

Best known as a member of the iconic British girl group Girls Aloudalongside Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nadine Coyle, and Kimberley WalshNicola Roberts added another accolade to her name by winning the 2020 season of The Masked Singer as 'Queen Bee'. She's now set to take on the role of Persephone in Hadestown, with performances running from 16 September to 18 January.

Directed by Tony Award-winner Rachel Chavkin and featuring music by Grammy Award-winner Anas Mitchell, Hadestown made a triumphant return to the Lyric Theatre last year. The production earned an Olivier nomination for Best Musical Revival and received three WhatsOnStage Award nominations, with Melanie La Barrie taking home the award for Best Supporting Role in a Musical.

The rest of the cast consists of Desmonda Cathabel as Eurydice, Chris Jarman as Hades, Cedric Neal as Hermes, Dylan Wood as Orpheus, Melanie Bright, Allie Daniel and Lauran Rae as the Fates; Femi Akinfolarin, Michelle Andrews, Ollie Bingham, Laura Delany and Sebastian Lim-Seet as the Workers; with Lucinda Buckley, Juan Jackson, Oisn Nolan-Power, Lindo Shinda and Jasmine Triadi as swings.

What is the plot of Hadestown?

This new musical transports the action from ancient Greece to an eclectic setting akin to the buzzing New Orleans scene. Hadestown weaves together the opposing forces of nature and industry, faith and doubt, and love and death to tell the story of the guitar-toting Orpheus and his great love Eurydice as they battle the harsh landscape of Hadestown, an industrial underworld of trouble and toil that makes for a better choice than the winter-ravaged landscape above. Lured by the promise of food and shelter, Eurydice is kidnapped by Hades, a foreman-like figure who rules the mechanicals below. Orpheus sets out to save his wife, setting off a chain reaction of unrest, riot, and chaos in his fateful wake.
