GREAT SHOW WITH BRILLIANT SCENERY

Bill Sykes moody and believable, Fagan funny and entertaining, Oliver great acting and voice. New Nancy holds her own in the solo's. The scenery was brilliant it really made the show extra special

GREAT EYE FOR DETAIL. BUT THE VOLUME WAS TOO SOFT

We went to see the show on July 14th 2010. The show was wonderful. Go see it. Great acting, singing and dancing. Oliver was really cute and Dodger was at his best. Special complements to Bill Sykes for his convincing acting. (His raw voice makes you want to cough though). Special complements on the decor. So very inventive, real looking and beautifully done. A treat for the eyes. The volume of the singing and dialogues was too soft. Especially Nancy was so hard to hear. And she has such a lovely voice! Really a pity but thankfully the only dissonant.

SURTITLES NEEDED!

Went to see Oliver yesterday and really enjoyed the show apart from the fact that some of the dialogue was very difficult to understand. Why were Mr and Mrs Bumble given such strong northern accents and why was Nancy so over- cockneyed that she was at times unintelligible? If we struggled, what chance to foreign tourists have?

OLIVER 20TH DEC

Slightly dissapointing performance by Jodie singing excellent but lacked acting ability very little if any romance demonstrated . Oliver and Dodger excellent .Room for improvement.

REVIEWING THE SITUATION

Maybe I've seen just too many musicals that it takes a lot to wow me these days but I was a little disappointed. Let me start with praise for the really good stuff firstly the sets - brilliant, secondly the orchestra- superb, the lead violin during "Reviewing the Situation" truly made the proverbial hairs stand up. The fantastic soloists during “Who will buy” which include I’d Do Anything finalist the lovely Sarah Lark. All the big ensemble numbers and the highly talented gang members. The very creepy Mr Sowerberry played a little too convincingly by Julian Bleach and finally Ross McCormack who steals the show as Dodger Now the not so great. Fagin, overall I thought Rowan Atkinson gave a more than credible performance but I could have done without the Mr Bean voice and teddy bear. I thought Bill Sykes was a little one dimensional. I voted for Jodie Prenger as Nancy and she can belt em out but I thought her acting wasn’t great, I didn’t feel any empathy with her. As for Oliver who was tonight played by Harry Stott yes he has a lovely choir boy voice but that’s it. I usually sob during Mark Lester’s rendition of “Where is love” but Harry’s didn’t move me at all, I’m afraid he has no stage presence and looks a little lost . Finally my biggest gripe is the last scene on the rooftop , Mr Director could you perhaps revisit this? Overall it’s an enjoyable night out, but I wouldn’t rush back until the lead parts have changed

SOME GREAT MOMENTS BUT...

A bit disappointed. Some great moments in this show, but some lame ones too. You don't get to feel for the characters and much of the drama is lost. I agree with the comments on the smutty scenes, but none of the children in our group appeared to notice anything. I thought the boy who played Dodger was a poor actor. Griff is fun, but not special. Amazing how so many people in the audience coughed disgustingly - some were obviously sick! I was happy with seats in row A of Upper Circle. I recommend a visit to the theatremonkey website - very helpful indeed.

DISAPPOINTED - GOSPORT

I saw the show on 29th January, and was disappointed to note that Jodie was not on on a Thursday evening. When we arrived at the theatre it was even more disappointing to find that Rowan Atkinson was also not appearing. I felt that I saw a show full of understudies. Some other roles were also covered by understudies. I could not understand the Marketing and P.R. surely they could have arranged for Jodie to cover Rowan's absence and at least the audience would have had one "star". When it started Mr. Bumble's voice was not good and unfortunately Oliver had not warmed up vocally so his intonation was very insecure. The ensemble and Doger were fabulous and stole the show, I felt that on the curtain call most of the audience were disappointed.
