SPECTACULAR SHOW BUT MANY DISTRACTONS FROM SMALL CHILDREN

Just saw the Sat matinee of 'Oliver!' - bought my ticket in Feb for June 6 show and have been looking forward to this very special cast. Was not at all disappointed by the performances - all actors were superb, especially Jodie and Burn. But, of course Rowan was the highlight of the show. He took the dark character of Fagin and put his own unique stamp on it as only he can do. Entirely his own interpretation, 'Beanified' as you could say. Absolutely Brilliant! The big problem is that, after paying £75 for a ticket and waiting over 4 months, I was distracted throughout the whole performance by small children in my row and behind me. Many were under 8 years, and were bored after the first few scenes. The little girl next to me continually squirmed in her seat, putting her feet up on the seat in front of her, opening chips bags, shaking her cup with ice in it. Made it difficult to hear the dialogue at times. The child behind me kept kicking the seat. Parents leave the kids home!

BRILLIANT PRODUCTION

Saw the show on Wednesday 24th June - matinee performance in order to see Jodie Prenger as Nancy. Absolutely brilliant production, enjoyed every minute. Rowan Atkinson is superb and the rest of the cast are excellent. Lionel Bart's score has lost none of its' magic. Could only get seats in the balcony, which is high up, but the view was fine in the main - slight restricted view in one seat which we were warned about when buying the tickets, so no surprises. Show suitable for all ages. Go see it if you can. Lots of places to eat in the surrounding area of 'theatreland', before or after the show.

01/07/09 THEATRE ROYAL

What an amazing show!!! Waited 7 months to see it and was not disapointed at all. Oliver! is one of my all time favourites and Ron Moody is the best Fagin but Rowan Atkinson is a very close second! The cast were all fantastic and the scenery was out of this world. We were seated in the upper circle seats and the only restriction was not being able to see the right hand corner of the walk way but it didn't impact on any of the awesomeness of the show. I would recommend the show to anyone but don't take small children as they would not fully appreciate it.

OMID DJALILI BEST FAGIN EVER!

We went to see Omid Djalili as Fagin last night and what a rare treat it was! I had seen Ron Moody in the West End show about 20 years ago as a teenager and we were lucky enough to see Rowan Atkinson about 1 month ago, also. Jodie Prenger is great, she captivates with her wonderful voice and charming personality as Nancy. The sets were great, because they truly set the atmospheric mood of Dickensian London complete with fog and candle lights, to great effect. The characters had great costumes and make up was spot on. Loads of cast, lots of children and they danced and sang a treat. There is no doubt about the comic genius of Omid Djalili and so he makes it an unforgettable Fagin for me. Would definitely recommend this and come again. Well done Cameron Macintosh for creating such a great show! Very family friendly. Lots of familiar catchy tunes, which make it a joy for everyone. I could hear very well, except when actors spoke in deep, menacing tones (Bill Sykes). Great jokes!

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC

I saw Oliver last night and was blown away by the show. All of the cast were amazing. Jodie was fantastic and believable as Nancy and Omad provided many laughs. The children were also great, especially the young Artful Dodger. I want to go and see it again already!
